American Christians Approve Of Torture? | The Last Days

A new poll by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life reveals that the more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of prisoners.

What in the world is going on?

According to the survey, 54 percent of Americans who attend church at least once per week said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified, while only 42 percent of Americans who “seldom or never” attend church services agreed with that viewpoint.

Wow.

So is that would Jesus do?

Torture helpless prisoners?

WTF, Jesus?!

the sad state of affairs
yes, this is very sad. as a christian its shameful- a great example of when people's politics guide their faith, when it should be their faith that guides their politics. or maybe rather here, let fear conquer faith. if you read the survey, it should be of note that its white christians that are profiled in this and that i do think emerging generations of Christians are different. i got this passed around (and i posted it on my fb) by other likeminded people of faith who actually read their new testaments and try to live it out.
Insightful as always, Joh! It'd be interesting to see how things break down further by both race and region -- I suspect people (in general) who live closer to urban hubs are more aware of the downsides of ... torture.
Torture is a waste for the most part only gets you what you want to hear. Not what is true. Christians are supposed to seeking what is true!
I do not believe in torture. It ain't American. However, I can attest that some X-tians I know are lukewarm at best about "forceful interrogations." Some are all about the water and pliers. Btw, the U.S. stopped torturing in 2003, so the debate is now moot, though kept alive by Fox News, 24, and Cheney. Just my two cents.
Ahhh but just because they think it, doesn't mean that they'd actually do it. At least they're being honest, I guess...?
