At the top of Maui

Rode to the top of Haleakala this morning. It's 10,000 feet of elevation gain over 36 miles. Took me a little under 5 hours.

man, you must be roasting right now
Wow. I hope it doesn't take another 5 hours to come back.
Nice. 7 mph. You musta been riding some turd ass heavy bike. That helmet is a real beauty too!
I did the bottom 3k of climbing at a decent pace -- after that though I just cruised with no sense of my speed or the time that was passing. Around 5000 ft my hands were feeling a little tingly. At 6000 ft I entered the clouds which dropped the temperature down to 60 degrees or so. It warmed up a little at 8500 ft when I broke through the clouds but it was windy and in the 50s for the last 750 ft which.

I was able to rent a lower end Madone from the shop. It felt really strange coming from the Scott -- not nearly as responsive and so soft to ride I thought it had suspension in the rear for a bit. I think with my scott and a computer to give me some sense of my effort (and a little more time and prep riding to high alt) I could do it in 3.5 hours.
