Gaming Addiction

Just read this great blog article (http://www.inter-sections.net/2009/02/21/destroying-the-world-of-warcraft) that does a great job at describing the affects of gaming addiction and the steps this writer took to confront and end it.  I’ve always known I’ve had an addictive personality when it comes to imagination driven pastimes (reading and gaming mostly).  It’s been a long time since I last felt truly addicted to a game (it was also WoW for me – back in 2004) but reading this blog reminds me of my struggle with the balancing of life and the game.  Back when I played, the lvl cap was 60 which I never reached. But it took a herculean effort to step out of the world and I was only able to accomplish it because finals were approaching and I knew I needed a solid week of studying to prepare for my physics exam.  After the test was over, I logged back in and strangely found I no longer had the desire to play.  Instead I tried to force myself back into the gaming groove and when after a week I still wasn’t enjoying it like I had, I cancelled my account.  I still have fond memories of the game – blizzard created an amazing world in this game – but I’m happy with the use I’ve put to my free time since then.

Good job. Thanks for the initial 40s you gave me. HAHA I've stopped playing for 1.5 year now and I tried it again during the holidays and it was totally boring to me. I too tried to force myself to place, but never got back into the game.
I really got addicted to Diablo II at one stage in my life, but then discovered that it was much more fulfilling to go out into the real world and slaughter my own "DeeMunZ"... Haha
