What I want just as much as a Tesla Roadster

CA High Speed Rail System

I've spent the past 2 weeks commuting to work and the city on Caltrain.
It's been a big change but one I've been happy to make -- not only am I
spending a fraction of what I used to at the gas-pump, I've also found a
more productive and social means to commute. In 2 weeks, I've run into two
cycling friends on the train, and also doubled or tripled the amount I read
on a week to week basis. Beyond that, I sincerely find the experience far
more relaxing than driving -- even driving short distances vs commuting the
same is much more pleasant.

Now imagine a time in the near future where we've improved on all of this
and have connected all the major metropolitan hubs with a rail system that
will get you from SF to LA in just over 2.5 hours. This could be the first
step in fixing our terrible public transit system.

i wonder when's the earliest they can complete such a project. it's a pretty awesome thought to turn a 7 hour drive into a 2 hour ride.
I would guess it would take us a decade to complete -- that's of course if we ever get started (big "if" sadly). Make sure you're there this November to vote yes for the bond measure!
sucks, it won't be done until 2030. =(
everything ive read says 2020 ... But that's assuming there aren't by set backs. I think with gas prices what they are now we might just have the perfect political climate to see some real change in the next few years.
